Palm’s new product is no iPhone killer - it may be the ultimate iPhone accessory
Closed Published May 30th, 2007 in iPhone NewsPalm just wrapped up their webcast where they talked about their new Foleo. It looks like a laptop, but it’s more of a mobile email machine. I can honestly say after watching this, I want one.

Jeff Hawkins described a lot of the features about the Foleo, the biggest being a full standard keyboard and the instant-on feature. The Foleo only has two states: off, and on. You never have to wait to turn it on. The applications are always ready, everything is instant.

Question: We’d love to write apps. Will it open up?
Steve Jobs: This is a very important tradeoff between security and openness. We want both. We’ve got good ideas, and sometime later this year, we can open it up to 3rd party apps, and keep security.

Glenn Lurie, a leader in the iPhone project at AT&T who is actually using his own iPhone before the device’s debut, said in an interview that “There are other things — you have the widgets, some of the Google applications that are coming — there are just so many things here that the price will not be an issue,” leading many to believe that Google Maps won’t be the only Google widget on the iPhone.
Might this be evidence that Apple is “pulling their classic under-promise and over-deliver move in a bid to capture a larger share of the mobile phone market,” asks ZDNet’s Jason D. O’Grady.
